About Me

Welcome to HackMyCareer
Hi. Welcome to Hack My Career. I’m Eric.
Like I said before, helping people find and improve their careers has long been a passion of mine.
In fact, I’m the weird guy who goes to my friends when they get laid off, or are unhappy at work, etc. and say “soooo, my secret passion is helping people network into better jobs, nail their negotiations, and move up in their careers. Can I help you?”
In helping my friends (who had success!) I found we often did the same types of things together, so I thought I’d start HMC and get them all here online for my current (and future) friends.
Do I have any credentials? Nothing “official,” other than living a lot of it. Here’s what I’ve done in my own career:
Worked with recruiters 3x in finding jobs
Networked into another one
Negotiated salary and benefits more than 5x, across multiple companies, with different parties at different times, including recruiters, HR, and founders
Negotiated stock options at multiple companies
Advisors I’ve had through the years:
multiple executive coaches, where I learned some great strategies
numerous lawyers, including employment law and executive compensation attorneys (money well spent on both, including a funny story to share down the road on the exec comp side)
advisors to assist in my path.
Hired or led hiring for positions in:
Support
Account Management
Engineering
- IT
Severance 2x on exit
My professional background, if you’re wondering, is the following:
Undergrad: physics
Grad school: MBA from top 20 school. Included course work on organizational behavior, leadership and interpersonal communication, negotiation, and other “soft skill” classes
3x SaaS software in product management and customer success roles, including venture capital and private equity backed companies. SaaS industry focus was commercial real estate
1 stint at US-based mega bank where I ran product strategy for treasury products within the commercial real estate space
2 years sabbatical during my undergrad to volunteer in Madagascar
